CLOCKWORK

featured-post

“Clockwork isn’t really something that was thought through, it actually went through no stages of planning whatsoever”.

Francesco Leali and Federico Maccherone AKA Clockwork. A project born in early 2010 but only officially launched in 2011 with the release of their debut Ep “It’s You Again” on the UK based label Hot Creations that unexpectedly gave them the chance to work and perform with some of the most experienced, inspiring and valuable members and events of the electronic music scene today.

Their debut has seen them initially produce a dark breed of house which noticeably got deeper and deeper each time, trying to combine those sounds to more Techno oriented pieces of work. Their recent work has demonstrated musical versatility and innovation aiming to reach and explore new grounds. After a variety of successful ratings and reviews they are now concentrating on their first LP expected to be released in early 2013 on the young, but already well known ‘Life and Death’ imprint.

B.O.A.T.S, ‘based on a true story’ points to showcase the duo’s influences that in this specific case derive mainly from Breakbeat to Techno. The aim in this case was to create an LP that somehow differentiated itself but at the same time told a story and dictated a path to follow from start to finish

MATTHEW DEAR

featured-post

Depending on whom you ask, Matthew Dear is a DJ, a dance-music producer, an experimental pop artist, a bandleader. He co-founded both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He’s had remixes commissioned by The XX, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Spoon, Hot Chip, The Postal Service, and Chemical Brothers; he’s made mixes for the Fabric mix series and Get Physical’s Body Language. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none—and he’s just hitting his stride.

Matthew Dear’s 2003 full-length Ghostly debut, Leave Luck to Heaven, is a suite of sparse, wickedly funky house laced with Dear’s deep, distinctive vocals, and includes the much-loved single “Dog Days” (voted one of Pitchfork’s Top 100 Songs of the Decade). The record was met with rapturous acclaim from both the dance-music establishment and the critical press, including a four-star review in Rolling Stone. Dear’s 2007 follow-up, Asa Breed, was a considerable departure from Heaven’s dancefloor excursions, incorporating the polyrhythms of Afrobeat, the irreverent pop sensibilities of Brian Eno, and the austere beauty of Krautrock. More four-stars reviews followed (Q and Mojo magazines), and Dear subsequently began touring with a live three-piece band in which he acted as frontman, commanding the stage with a Bryan Ferry-like swagger and a gentleman’s grace.

His fourth album, 2010’s Black City, was the culmination of years of hard work and experimentation, a darkly playful sound-world that envelops the listener like the arms of a malevolent lover.

His latest album, Beams, was a critical and commercial success. It is both a drastic departure from and worthy successor to Black City’s gothic masterwork. A suite of weird, wild, and queasily optimistic rhythm-driven pop songs, Beams is the latest chapter in the continuing evolution of one of music’s most fascinating minds. After over a decade of exploring pop’s outer limits, Matthew Dear now inhabits a rarified corner of the musical universe: no longer tethered to any one genre, respected by his peers, and blessed with a bottomless well of creative energy. Now is Matthew Dear’s moment, and it sounds like nothing else.

Tama Sumo

Back on the crime scene, one of the first House and Techno pioneers in Berlin. After several nights I started wondering why Kerstin choosed this role moniker. According to Discogs Wisdom it originates from 1994 after a night of too much champagne. After that night it established very quickly as her DJ name because she founds out that sounded nice. Let’s take it as good, as star will shine upon us and birds will sing in the sycamore trees (dream a little dream of me).

Garden Troubles

A remarkable night with two great djs and producers raised in the roman scene. We’re talking about Claudio Fabrianesi and Dj Red, living a year on the international charts’ edge with their fresh works. Claudio’s Cosmic Kabul (out on his own Wonderwet Records) is a gorgeous sound scape from itchy droney techno to radicated deep groves. Meanwhile the red pasionaria we all love, is out with her first work on B-Pitch Ctrl. Eyes Are Blind sounds like the deep anthem we all would sing on the floor if we just would have words to.

MIDLAND

Midland made his 2010 debut alongside longtime friend Pearson Sound with their anthemic “Your Words Matter”, a track that would go on to be placed in DJ Mag’s “100 most important house records” feature. Within the track, the pair wove, defied and played with a number of genres and, in doing so, Midland laid a clear foundation stone for his vision of how electronic music could be. It is a sound that is rooted in House and Techno but with the rumbling low end of Dubstep and wide screen experimentation of classic Electronica.

Since then, subsequent releases on Phonica, More Music and Aus, plus remixes for Turbo, Werk and artists like the 2 Bears and Julio Bashmore have all cemented his reputation as a producer whose tastes reach beyond the dancefloor. The now London based producer’s deft edits of Washed out, Boards of Canada and Caribou have also become firm favourites with many, winning over some diehard fans along the way.

As a DJ, Midland’s sets are unsurprisingly diverse, something witnessed at clubs from Fabric to Plastic People to Space in Ibiza, Horst in Berlin and Chinese Laundry in Sydney. As a result, he is just as likely to be seen playing alongside artists like Joy Orbison or Ben Ufo as he is James Zabiela, Steffi or Will Saul. With collaborations due to emerge with Breach and Pariah as well as a number of projects aimed at pushing his sound into uncharted areas, it’s a good bet you will find yourself dancing to something he’s had a hand in sooner rather than later.

Outhouse — Opening

Awakening

«After a long period of slumber,comes a moment of awakening»

Welcome to the night of british young guns in Rebel Rebel Warehouse.

London producer George FitzGerald is simply the new man in town; his productions on label such Hotflush and Aus Music combine with exceptional style and grace both the warmer, melodic sides of house and garage with the more heated, pounding drum patterns of dubstep and techno.

Together they represent the new wave of english house music, the same wave that will run over the Warehouse tonight. Bring some waterproof because this will be wet!
